He is scared pretty easily. Becoming panicked and flustered during stressful situations. It can take him a few minutes to calm down and think rationally.
He is also pretty scared of his powers and worries about the destructive potential they have. He is very reluctant to fight and would rather talk things out first.
Background: Normal family, normal friends, normal town. That was the best way to describe Ted's life before he bonded with an alien superweapon.
But lets back up a bit and find out how this all started.
He was a normal kid. Quieter than most perhaps. But normal all the same. He had few friends, mostly kept to himself and his books.
That all changedwhen the fire nation attacked he went exploring in the nearby woods. And got hit by a falling star. The explosion was immense and left Theodore near death, in fact he was clinically dead for a few minutes. But the falling star itself that saved him. It crawled from the crater it crashed into and grafted itself onto Theodore's spine. The scarab saved his life, restarting his heart, repairing the brain damage and healing his more serious injuries.
He awoke a week later in hospital. Doctors were amazed by his recovery. Their equipment unable to pick up the presence of the alien symbiote inside of Theodore. Later that night the Scarab made contact with Theodore. It asked him a simple question. "What am I?" To which Theodore replied. "Someone who saved my life."
As he stayed in the hospital, Theodore conversed with the Scarab. Apparently it couldn't remember anything about itself. It only knew that it was a powerful weapon but is heavily damaged.
Once he was finished healing, Theodore went home. Life continued on as normal. occasional conversations with the Scarab notwithstanding. Until he happened to come across a bank robbery and the Scarab activated its armour for the first time.
Thanks to the xenotech superweapon, Theodore was able to stop the robbery easily. But instead of being overjoyed that he was a hero or excited at the prospect of having superpowers. He was instead terrified. The Scarab had told him that what it had just done was barely a fraction of the suit's full power. And this revelation scared Theodore. He had nearly killed on of the robbers with his powers, what kind of massive destruction could he unleash when the Scarab finished repairing itself. Without the proper training people could die.
So it was that Theodore rushed home. He explained the situation to his parents and between them all they did some research on a certain school. A school that hosts people with incredible gifts such as Theodore. Sinclair Academy.

Powers:"The Scarab"
A mysterious piece of semi-sentient alien technology that is grafted to Ted's spine. To the average observer it is a scarab tattoo that sits between his shoulder blades. The scarab has many functions but is currently damaged at the moment. It will take a very long time for it to reach full functionality.
Power 1.Armour: While the armour is active, his body's capabilities are boosted to that on an adult human male in peak physical condition. It is strong enough to allow him to survive environment with no oxygen since it is connected to his body it constantly supplies his cells with fresh oxygen. It also protects him from environmental extremes such as sub-zero temperatures or the vacuum of space.
The armor is very durable in its current condition. Ted could survive being thrown through a stone wall without much of a problem. Getting hit by a bus would only cause bruising.
However it will still hurt. A lot. The Scarab has no way of dampening Ted's pain receptors. While the suit could survive bullets shots. It would still cause Ted an enormous amount of pain and give him some very impressive bruises.
It does have heavier armor on the fists and legs. Due to its enhanced durability he is capable of cracking stone with a repeated forceful blows. Thanks to the heavier armor he doesn't feel the impact.
It can also shift the shape of the armor to produce blades capable of cutting through steel.
2. Sonic blaster: The suit transforms its hands into large cannons capable of emitting blasts of sound. It can fire several frequencies of sound. The most powerful blast that Theodore is currently capable of producing is capable of blasting through reinforced steel. But it could theoretically do more if Theo becomes determined enough. (In other words he can get stronger temporarily for plot reasons)
Lower strength blasts are capable of breaking bones and causing fair amount of damage to a normal squishy human. Or simply knocking them over with concussive force. But since Theo is a bit of a coward. He is usually reluctant to fight or use this level of force in the first place.
3. Flight: The armor is capable of producing bug-like wings for flight. In ideal conditions it can reach a top travel speed of 500 mph, but this speed would require both a large amount of space and time to reach.
(In other words it is for travel purposes, not combat.)
The average travel speed is roughly 60 mph in close quarters and indoor environments. He is capable of carrying up to two people while he flies, but is unable to reach his top speeds with them hanging on. And can only go up to 60 mph while they are on him. Any faster risks an average person falling off.
The downside to this is that the wings are rather large. They make him a pretty big target. He isn't great at flying in small areas. Unless he keeps his eyes open he's liable to fly straight into a wall when he tries to turn a corner.
4. Tech integration and scanning: The scarab has a limited cyber warfare suite. While it is capable of instantly searching the internet and accessing databases. More secure military ones would take both time and proximity for him to hack. It is also capable of scanning organic matter and technology. But is incapable of comprehending psychic abilities or magical creatures. It can also wirelessly interact with other pieces of technology such as phones and computers as well as make contact with communicators and the like.
Weakness:
1. Hates violence: Theo hates violence. He holds back on his powers most of the time, preferring to talk things out.
2. Fear: Theo is a coward. I takes a lot for him to jump into a fight.
3. Naivety.
